Yes, this is with the new camera, but unfortunately I did not have the right settings in place, and the quality of this image, which is straight out of the camera, is pretty poor. But isn’t it a lovely scene? There I was down near the water, with such a sunset and the ferry right there, as scenic as it gets, and fumbling around in the almost dark I just failed to get it right. Darn. Well, try to imagine it with sharp, brilliant edges, and all the water ripples showing.

There’s a Winco grocery store in Renton, not too far away, that not only has great prices but has a parking lot with very sculptural trees and a big sky, too. This was taken last week. We are now entering the darkest week of the year (in the Northern hemisphere, of course), and soon the days will be on the upswing. Let’s hear it for the Solstice!

And thank you so much for those who clicked through to the Photoblog Awards and left a comment or a vote. I appreciate it so very much. And thank you to everyone for putting up with all that repeated blurb about it! We are done now.

A recent view of Seattle’s Puget Sound with a ferry coming into dock, very late in the day. The quality is not so great, but out of the car window at cruising speed, in low light, well, it’s amazing what these little cameras can do. For skies seen around the world, visit Skywatch Friday.

This recent sunset was in the Burien Fred Meyer’s parking lot. I like the way the single streetlight almost looks like a star on a Christmas tree.

Here’s a view of Puget Sound you don’t have too often. It’s so high on the 75th floor of the Columbia Tower Club that sometimes planes and helicopters fly by at eye level, and once I saw a blimp! This visit, I’m happy just to have seen the ferries and the rippley water’s surface, reflected in the late afternoon sun.

We were at a business function last night at the Columbia Tower Club, on the 75th floor, just at dusk. This is about the highest point in Seattle. What a photo opportunity! Here is Mt. Ranier, perhaps 50 miles away, clearly showing its conical volcano shape. Let’s hope an eruption is far in the future, although they say we are overdue. In the sky are the beginnings of those saucer-shaped lenticular clouds, it looks to me, but I am no expert.

This is from a couple of weeks ago when there were some fires burning, not sure where but far away, that for several days made our sunsets smoky but beautiful. Visit Skywatch Friday for more views of skies around the world.

After our anniversary dinner the other day, we took a little stroll along the pier, but it was too windy to stay long. You can see the Puget Sound water surface is not that smooth, but the rays of the sunset was welcome with its brilliant color enlivening the gray skies and dark water. Happy Skywatch Friday, everyone!

We have a road in Seattle, the Viaduct, that is not very safe in case of a big earthquake, so they are probably going to tear it down and build a tunnel, but oh, the views from that marvellous road going north into town. I considered cropping this so you could see the birds on the lamppost on the left side of the road, and eliminating the road altogether, but I decided to leave it as taken. It’s a great road.

This is a fresh photo, hot off the memory card. Tonight we were driving into Seattle and the view of Puget Sound from the viaduct (perhaps to be replaced by a tunnel eventually), was just wonderful. I love it when hubby drives and I can take photos! And this is one of the blessings of digital; I know I could never have captured this image on film from a moving car.
Those are the Olympic mountains out there. That speck in the sky is a plane, I believe, not windshield dirt as I first thought.
