In the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden in Seattle, a brilliantly sun-dappled path invites a stroll.

Old trees overarch this path in the park on a sunny May day.

Was lucky enough to have a little picnic the other day at a new place to me, Mt. Baker Beach. Here’s the pier:

And here’s the little park where we had a picnic. Isn’t that inviting?

This perennial plant with huge leaves emerging at the Seatac Highline Botanical Garden might be ‘Smaragd’ bronzeleaf rodgersia (R. podophylla ‘Smaragd’) because that’s what looks closest on google images. Let me know if that’s not right.

Toothed and notched huge leaves of bronzeleaf rodgersia. I think.

This year the spring flowers seem even more spectacular than usual. Seattle does spring very well indeed.

For a brief time it was sunny out. The garden is in bloom.

I heart bleeding hearts! Pink and white spring flowers in my yard.

My windowsill Minerva amaryllis bloomed earlier. Now a second bloom is happening, and the first bloom actually set seed! Below is a view of the dark brown seed and a second, unripe pod behind it.

I call this the Dr. Seuss plant because it looks so wacky. Checking google images, I see it is sometimes called paintbrush lily. The flower is about 1.5 or 2 inches. It is a bulb related to amaryllis. Notice the tiny leaves in the dirt. Last year it set a few seeds, and I got one to grow!
