Backyard light

The days are getting shorter. A view of my backyard in the late afternoon light. Love those leek flower balls!

Backlit irises

Glorious spring weather this weekend in Seattle. The red roses (‘Crimson Glory’?) are on a bush I rooted myself! Beyond the little plum tree, the rest of the yard is my lovely neighbor’s.

Old cedar tree

This is the bottom half of our giant cedar tree, estimated to be perhaps 300 years old. There’s about twice as much tree above as is shown. The trunk is four or five feet in diameter. The recent wind has dropped the older leaves onto the lawn, eventually to be raked into mulch. Many, many birds live in its branches. I love our tree.

Italian prune plums

This is the third box of plums so far, from such a little tree! My neighbor refused an offer of some, saying they are the dandelions of fruit, that he grew up with a couple of trees of them, and was set for life. It made me laugh, but more for me.

January in California

Here’s a little video clip of a January trip to Sonoma County, CA a few years ago. Scenic barn! Live oak! Birdsong!

And a still from the same scene. I wish you a scenic 2020.
