Wildflowers near a river

Continuing a theme, here is the Sol Duc (pronounced Sole Duck) River in the background swishing over the rocks. The Sol Duc is within the Olympic National Park in Washington State, in the Pacific Northwest.

There’s an unknown wildflower in front. Anyone recognize it? [later: Clairz says it’s fireweed! Yay, Clairz!]

Check out Scenic Sunday and SOOC (straight-out-of-the-camera shots). Before you do, browse around here a bit. What appeals today?

Foggy sunset

At the Dungeness Recreation Area near Sequim, WA, right after we saw the bald eagle below, as the sun was setting it peeked in and out of the fog. Moody, evocative scene. The foghorn sounded every once in awhile, just to add to the effect.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more kinds of skies seen all over the world. Scenic Sunday has amazing photos, too.

If you have arrived via the permalink, be sure to look around for something new. How about trying a search for “sunset”? The latest posts can always be found at Sara’s Fave Photos, above.

Bald eagle

At the Dungeness Recreation Area north of Sequim in the Olympic Peninsula is a wonderful trail, free to use, of a bluff along the water of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The weather was quite cool and foggy but of course it was a great walk anyway, nice easy stroll, when what did I see but a bald eagle, sitting right there. He was maybe 30 feet away. The little Canon S90 didn’t do too bad, considering the low light and the distance. I loved that he was looking out at the view, same as us.

Let’s try a new meme. How about Camera Critters? A very popular group of talented photographers.

Sol Duc River

The Olympic Peninsula in the Pacific Northwest has some magnificent scenery. On our way to check out Sol Duc (pronounced Sole Duck) hot springs (we weren’t impressed; just big outdoor regular swimming pools and $12 per person to swim; maybe they might have more appeal in cold weather) we stopped at a roadside rest near the river. Now this was worth a visit! I tried to upload a video but wasn’t able to compress it enough. Any recommendations on how to do that? They are MOV files. I did download a program called MPEG Streamclip but have no idea of what settings to use. Any help appreciated.

Anyway, here are a couple of stills. You’ll just have to imagine the loud burbling and plashing noise and the silence all around it.

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for more interesting photos on the theme. These are both SOOC, and make the grade for Scenic Sunday also.

While you are here, check out a tag like “scenic.” Arriving via permalink, the latest posts are always at Sara’s Fave Photos above.

Puget Sound on a sunny day

Puget Sound near Seattle has many moods. This one was bright and exuberant, or at least the camera angle makes me feel that way when I look at it. Hope it doesn’t make you dizzy!

Visit Watery Wednesday for interesting water shots of all kinds and Outdoor Wednesday, too.

I’ll be away from my computer for a few days and hope to visit you when I return. Please leave a comment so I’ll know you visited! Thanks!

Parasailor in the sunset

Driving on the Seattle Viaduct the other evening, there was an incredible sunset. Actually, hubby was driving and I was leaning across him and shooting out his open window. We don’t get too sunsets like this, believe me. When I saw the photos later, I was amazed to see a parasailor up there. What a view he or she must have had! Puget Sound is one gorgeous place, when the light is right especially.

Today I went on the Federal Way (Washington) Garden Tour. It benefits the Federal Way Symphony and I got to see six of the nine gardens. Whew! Here’s a delightful water feature from an amazing hidden jungle in the Hendricks garden.

Here is a view of Puget Sound from Shoreline, a bit north of Seattle, on a recent heavenly and warm day. A perfect end to a perfect day.
