Blooming tree with white flowers

Sometimes I just have no idea what a flower is, especially trees. Anyone have an idea? But isn’t it pretty, with the light coming through the petals like that?

Various flower memes worth visiting include Today’s Flowers, Weekend Flowers, Floral Friday, plus there’s  Pink Saturday, Macro Monday, Skywatch Friday and Outdoor Wednesday, just for fun.

If you’re in Seattle, be sure to hit the Volunteer Park Conservatory plant sale tomorrow, Saturday. It’s the best, and I’ll be there, signing books, too.

Clouds from above

Air travel seems very magical to me. As much as I understand how the air thins out over the curved top of the wing and creates lift, or think I understand it, the fact of a huge metal structure flying through the air is something to wonder at, no matter how many times I have flown. And the opportunity to see our earth from above the clouds is one of my favorite experiences. This photo was taken somewhere over the midwest, in late March. I bet it’s greening up now!

Skywatch Friday has many other sky photos from around the planet. Visit Shadow Shot Sunday 2, Outdoor Wednesday, and Scenic Sunday if you have a minute or two. Be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos Blog above to see the latest post here if you have arrived via a link. Thanks for visiting!

Guest photo: India

My favorite cousin just got back from her first trip to India, and she has shared her favorite photo with us, taken on the steps of the Ganges river. This is what she had to say about it: “The richness of multi-sensory experience was so palpable, I could only be in the present moment, always. This is in Hariwar, at Ma Ganga, washing, dunking, blessing, offering.”

I love this image and I hope you enjoy it also. I think it is remarkable and am calling it my Best Post of the Week.

It’s a good offering for Scenic Sunday, Outdoor WednesdaySOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Mellow Yellow Monday and Pink Saturday. Please follow this blog on the new widget to the right if you enjoy the photos. And thanks for visiting!

Pink Saturday featured blog

I’m very excited that this week Sara’s Fave Photos Blog is the featured blog at Beverly’s delightful party of pink, Pink Saturday. Thank you, Beverly! I thought I’d have some special orchids from my recent visit to the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show. It was amazing and inspirational. Here are three photos showcasing their remarkable display, in pink, of course.

Bleeding heart in late-day light

Here in Seattle we’ve had just fabulous weather the last few days. I wasn’t able to get to the tulip fields, but I did get a few wonderful photos in my garden yesterday. That lovely late afternoon light! They call it the Golden Hour for good reason. I hear it’s also beautiful at dawn, but not being an early riser naturally, I wouldn’t know about that. Late in the day for me! These bleeding hearts or dicentra are very happy in our acid soil up here, as are the sweet forget-me-nots you can see on the left. Behind the bleeding hearts is an old-fashioned red azalea bush, all just coming into bloom. I love springtime, and I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

You might want to visit Weekend Flowers, Floral Friday, Ruby Tuesday 2, Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, Today’s Flowers, and Shadow Shot Sunday 2, for some great photos with a theme.

Author Appearance Alert! I will be meeting fans and signing books at the gorgeous shop Martha E. Harris Flowers & Gifts in Madison Park in Seattle on Friday, April 27, 1-4pm. And we’ll have jewelry made from the book to check out! Please come and say hello.

Stopping by Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market today I saw a whole cartload of tulips in the rain. Since tomorrow’s my birthday, a special treat for you is TWO tulip photos. Hope you like them. I really do, so I’m calling it my my Best Post of the Week.

Flowering white tree

I took this photo in Connecticut when I was there not too long ago. I am sure it is not a cherry tree, but I don’t know what kind of tree it is. Anyone know? Perhaps an ornamental pear, or something like that? These fine old trees really are amazing in the northeastern U.S. landscape, with everything so totally gray in the winter and then these bursts of blossoms. Yay, Spring!

Visit Today’s Flowers, Weekend Flowers, Floral Friday, Thursday Challenge (Spring), Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, Wordless Wednesday and Pink Saturday (a tiny bit of pink!) to have a fine photo fun time. Be sure to click on the curly letters of Sara’s Fave Photos Blog above to be sure you are seeing the latest photos here, especially if you’ve arrived via a link to this post.

Tulips at Pike Place Market

If you’ve visited Seattle, you’ve probably visited Pike Place Market, home of the original Starbucks and flying fish vendors and all that. But you might not know that the north section with the fresh flower vendors is filled only with flower vendors who grow all their own flowers. Nothing is shipped in from Chile, just all local blooms from the Seattle area fields and farms. You’ll see flower combos like you have never seen anywhere else, and the masses of tulips on display right now are just something else. I love tulip season!

Take a look at Mellow Yellow Monday, Today’s Flowers, Weekend Flowers, Floral Friday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Scenic Sunday, Ruby Tuesday 2 and Pink Saturday for more photo fun. If you’d like to receive email notices for each blog post here, the RSS orange icon at top right makes it easy. Let me know via comments if you experience any difficulty with that. Blooming white tree

When I was in New York last week, everything was in bloom, at least the early spring flowers and trees. And no wonder, with a solid two weeks of 75 degree F weather (which ended before I got there, sadly). There were a lot of trees with white flowers blooming, and the bark was rough so I knew they weren’t cherry trees. But what they were, I do not know. Any ideas?

Interesting photo memes you might enjoy are Today’s FlowersWeekend Flowers, Floral Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), A Piece of Heaven, Skywatch Friday and Scenic Sunday. Lavender crocus

Don’t we all love crocuses! But why are they not croci? In any case, these incredibly cheerful small flowers are so very welcome in our gray Seattle weather. And they spread nicely, too. Plant some in your garden this fall and you will be so happy seeing their little sprouts poke out next late winter.

I am on a trip to New York and am posting by preschedule. Please follow this blog on the new widget to the right if you enjoy the photos. Thanks for visiting!
