Lenticular cloud at Mt. Rainier

Driving to Auburn, WA to cut a live Christmas tree, the Mountain (what locals call Mt. Rainier) was out, decorated by some pretty wonderful cloud forms.

Winter sunshine

My living room, in light and shadow. The snow outside is not quite melted from a few days ago.

Mt. Rainier at dusk

This photo is from exactly one year ago, taken at the overlook right near my house. All the rain going on in Seattle lately doesn’t yield much in the scenic mode. But who doesn’t like snow-covered active volcanoes in the sunset?

Hatiora (Drunkard’s Dream)

These teensy yellow flowers bloom on my south window every January and February. So welcome! And since they are succulents, they certainly tolerate my forgetting to water them very well. I appreciate that, too.

Japanese maple in snow

The snow has now melted. Usually in Seattle if it snows it doesn’t last long, so I know to get out there quick and get some photos. This was our little Japanese maple in the front yard yesterday morning, with bare lilacs close to the road behind it.

Snow scene

It didn’t last long, but it sure was beautiful for awhile in my yard. See the snowy branches reflected in the hummingbird post below.

Hummingbird at feeder

We have the kind of hummingbird feeder that suction-cups to the window. Not only does it provide a great view from indoors, but the extra heat from the house keeps the feeder mostly ice free. I went outside to take pictures of the snow and here is our little friend, posing nicely.

Floating hellebore blossoms

A great visit to the NW Flower & Garden Show yielded fabulous photos, as always. This year’s theme is “Art in Bloom.”

Sunset and evergreens

We had nice weather break through for a bit a couple of days ago, and this is what the sunset looked like in my backyard:

Mossy branches

Today I was at Lincoln Park in West Seattle and saw these huge, mossy branches. What a Pacific Northwest winter sight!
