Tulips and a pansy

Another photo of those frilly tulips decorating my kitchen, and a special bonus photo of a mauve pansy macro. The ones with the faces are my favorites. I get to be Guest Friend at Today’s Flowers this weekend, so be sure to pay them a visit for some great flower photos from around the world.

Late summer dahlias

It’s been pretty gray and I haven’t managed to get outside much when the sun did peek through, so it’s back to the archives for a blast of sunshine. Dahlias are such summer stunners.

Valentine treat

Went to a meeting last night and look at what was there! We were surprised to find that the hearts on top were rings, not candy. For very small fingers.

Hatiora (Drunkard’s Dream)

These teensy yellow flowers bloom on my south window every January and February. So welcome! And since they are succulents, they certainly tolerate my forgetting to water them very well. I appreciate that, too.

Lewisia flowers

I just learned the name of these small, pretty flowers recently on the Floral Friday blog. I happen to be reading Sacajawea, about the Lewis and Clark expedition to explore the Pacific Northwest, so when I learned that these flowers were named for Meriweather Lewis I was charmed. These were at Seattle’s huge NW Flower & Garden Show last week.

Hummingbird at feeder

We have the kind of hummingbird feeder that suction-cups to the window. Not only does it provide a great view from indoors, but the extra heat from the house keeps the feeder mostly ice free. I went outside to take pictures of the snow and here is our little friend, posing nicely.

Commercial space

In a commercial building that is not fully leased, I saw the light pour in. It gave me a good feeling.

Orchids at the Conservatory

Seattle’s beloved Volunteer Park Conservatory was looking fine today. The sun was out and the light on the orchids was just spectacular. Below the lady slipper orchid macro, check out the pretty metalwork and Clise Orchid Collection from 1921 sign decorating the display.

Yellow cactus flower print

This tender yellow cactus flower (original flower is a few inches across) is available as a print for your home or office, one of 15 stunning images from my book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory: Blooming Month by Month. They have no watermark, of course. All are 8″ x 10″ archival quality photo prints and I’ve firmly matted them in white to 11 x 14″ and signed each one. You can check them all out and order here or by clicking on the Prints tab above.

Purple crocus macro

I got some little crocus bulbs in a pot and they have begun to bloom. The sun peeked out today, finally, and I grabbed my camera.
