Scenic Hawaii, guest post

My dear cousin went to Hawaii (and got engaged there!) and has given me permission to share a few scenic photos she took there.

Mt. Rainier at dusk

This photo is from exactly one year ago, taken at the overlook right near my house. All the rain going on in Seattle lately doesn’t yield much in the scenic mode. But who doesn’t like snow-covered active volcanoes in the sunset?

Pink ranunculus

At the NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle last week of course there were exquisite flowers everywhere. Sometimes just one flower can capture an awful lot. I love this peachy pink ranunculus blossom in its abundant perfection. I love this image and am calling it my Top Shot of the Week.

Snow scene

It didn’t last long, but it sure was beautiful for awhile in my yard. See the snowy branches reflected in the hummingbird post below.

Hummingbird at feeder

We have the kind of hummingbird feeder that suction-cups to the window. Not only does it provide a great view from indoors, but the extra heat from the house keeps the feeder mostly ice free. I went outside to take pictures of the snow and here is our little friend, posing nicely.

Orchid bud

A recent visit to Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory showed this amazing orchid bud:

Sunset and evergreens

We had nice weather break through for a bit a couple of days ago, and this is what the sunset looked like in my backyard:

Maidenhair ferns

Maidenhair fern is the signature plant of Seattle’s beloved Volunteer Park Conservatory. This photo is one of my all-time faves (so soothing!), and is available as a print for your home or office, one of 15 lush images from my book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory: Blooming Month by Month. They have no watermark, of course. All are 8″ x 10″ archival quality photo prints and I’ve firmly matted them in white to 11 x 14″ and signed each one. You can check them all out and order here or by clicking on the Prints tab above.
