Seagulls feeding at water’s edge

Someone was dropping french fries off the Des Moines, WA, fishing pier, feeding these seagulls at the water’s edge. I know that it’s very bad for the birds to do this for many reasons, but I totally understand why people do it even if they know better. The birds look so cute as they fly and flutter around!

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday, plus Camera Critters this week. Shadow Shot Sunday has more neat shadows, Weekend Reflections and Wordless Wednesday are great, too. Check out Free Photos “next door” to see what’s new, and do click on Sara’s Fave Photos here if there is only one below.

Raindrops on leaves

I know that rain creates great photo ops in the garden. The challenge is, I don’t really like bending over and getting rained on. Those raindrops are so pretty, though! It’s hard to time it right when it stops, if it does, because then the droplets go away pretty quick. But I did get ONE shot out there this afternoon before it began to rain again.

Fall cosmos in the rain

We have plenty of rain right now, but not the pretty, tall flowers nodding in it, yet. This macro of a mauve pink cosmos flower, grown from seed and drooping with rain in my backyard last September, will remind all of us gardeners that the season of blossoms and lushness will come again.

Visit Watery Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, Macro Friday, Pink Saturday, Today’s Flower and Wordless Wednesday for more photo fun. Before you run off, take a look at the newest photos “next door” at Free Photos, and maybe a tag like Flowers or Rain here (at the right). And one more thing: click on Sara’s Fave Photos if you see only one photo below.

Green mossy path

The Pacific Northwest has green down pat. If it’s metal, it rusts, and if it’s not, it’s mossy. Roads, roofs, entire tree trunks (NOT just the north side!), rocks, everything. Especially in March. This completely unadjusted photo is of a street near my house last week. Can you say Green? I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week, too.

Green is the theme of the Thursday Challenge this week. I say this qualifies. Also, check out Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday, Watery Wednesday, Weekend Reflections, Scenic Sunday and Wordless Wednesday, just for fun. As always, if only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the complete assortment.

Oh, and tomorrow is my THREE YEAR blogoversary! Wheee! And I owe so much to Perry Internet Consulting, with the fabulous Marsha Perry at the helm. Couldn’t have done it without you, Marsha.

Longboarder on Puget Sound

Saturday at Normandy Park Cove beach (south of Seattle) we enjoyed the sun and mild temperatures, watching this young woman on a longboard and her dog paddle by. Don’t the reflections of the sun look like little stars?

Fishing pier

A neighborhood fishing pier in Des Moines, Washington, out over the waters of Puget Sound. Since it’s been raining and wintry for it feels like months and months unendingly, I thought I’d go to the archives for a sunny day to cheer us up here in the Pacific Northwest. I like it here but sometimes the weather really gets to me. I want to go outside and garden! This photo is my Best Post of the Week.

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for photos with a theme, as well as Blue Monday, Wordless Wednesday, Weekend Reflections, Shadow Shot Sunday, Skywatch Friday and Scenic Sunday. I love photo memes; can you tell? If there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for others.

Many dahlias

Haven’t been to Pike Place Market in awhile. If you want to experience the flower vendors and their incredible flowers to the nth degree, the best day is probably Friday, as they pick on Thursday and on Friday ramp up for the weekend crush of a crowd. All year long, rain or shine. The greatest free show in Seattle, and the bouquets amazingly cheap.

These dahlias were photographed in September. Right now it seems as if flower season will never get here, but of course it will.

Thursday Challenge‘s theme this week is “Many.” I’m submitting this for an entry. It’s a good one for Color Carnival, Today’s Flowers and SOOC also. While you’re here, try a new tag like “dahlia” or “bouquet.” Be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos to view the complete blog if you see only one photo below.

Indoor waterfall

This lovely scene was one of the displays at the NW Flower & Garden Show last week. Well done, I thought. This year’s show was filled with great stuff, especially for a flower and scenic photo enthusiast like me. And I thought that the lighting was a bit better in most of the displays, also. I hate flash and this light looks almost like outdoors to me. My camera (little Canon S90) was able to shoot this at 1/25, which is why the water looks so soft and almost steamy. Kind of odd, but pretty, too. And not bad for hand held!

Visit Watery Wednesday for more water photography. It’s kind of a cheat, but it’s sort of outdoors, or a good approximation of outdoors, so I’m entering this in the Outdoor Wednesday and Scenic Sunday memes, also. SOOC Sunday has more straight out of the camera photos, and Wordless Wednesday has all kinds of interesting images.

Horse in the snow

Next to my backyard is a horse pasture with two boarded horses. This one, Ranger, is owned by a teenage girl who loves him very much. See the blanket she put on him! This is from a week ago, just before even more snow fell. I love how it looks when the sky is darker than the snowy ground.

Visit Watery Wednesday for other water shots, and Outdoor Wednesday for more scenes outside. Scenic Sunday and Skywatch Friday are very worth visiting as well. How about joining Wordless Wednesday with one of your own photos?

Blue heron and harbor seals

In the fall, on a boat out of Anacortes, WA, we saw this great blue heron and some seals resting at the edge of one of the islands. We didn’t want to get too close to disturb them. I was told they are either harbor seals or sea lions. Does anyone know for sure which they are?

Since this is such an unusual photo for me, and how many Blue Herons do I get to see posing, anyway, I’m categorizing this as my Best Post of the Week.
