On my way to meet a client I got to see a rainbow this week. Oh, the joy of rainbows! For more skies around the planet, visit Skywatch Friday.

A self portrait

My daughter bought a new camera and took this photo of herself in the mirror. I love the way the fabric in the background seems to make a halo around her.

“Cloth” is the theme of Thursday Challenge this week.

Rain, rain, here to stay

Took these a couple of days ago after the first storms in the rainy series we’ve been having. It rained four inches in two days! Now we’ve given up hope of patio living and have taken the patio furniture inside, but this is how it looked. Be sure to scroll to view second photo.

Red Japanese maple

This was a potted specimen on a porch is Seattle, and I swear this was the color. I have NEVER seen such brilliant red foliage on a plant.

For more ravishing reds, visit Ruby Tuesday. For more brilliant color of all kinds, visit Color Carnival.

Autumn leaves

The yellow of these leaves is really a very mellow shade, don’t you think? Took this photo a couple of weeks ago, but it’s so perfect for today’s meme. We’ve since had a windstorm, so maybe those branches are bare now. Autumn is glorious, but brief.

Visit Mellow Yellow Monday for more ochre of all kinds.

Purple asters

Saw these purple and lavender asters last week in a Wallingford garden, planted for all to admire in the narrow strip at the road (which I think is called the verge). I haven’t grown asters very much, but may reconsider after seeing these.

For more floral magnificence, visit Flowers for Today. And for more brilliant color, visit Color Carnival.

Garden shadows

This was in a garden I visited last month. It’s been typical fall (gray) weather in Seattle for the last week or two and this kind of brilliant sunshine seems far, far away. For more shadows seen with awakened eye, visit Shadow Shot Sunday. And for more scenic shots, visit Scenic Sunday.

Blissful pink rose

This pink rose from my garden was in a bouquet in my living room, last week while it was still sunny. I love that you can see the light through the center, just a little bit. Happy Pink Saturday, everyone! And a reminder, this and pretty much all the photos on this blog are SOOC, or Straight Out Of the Camera. Just in case you wondered.

Driving to Seattle

Here is how Seattle looked not that long ago as I approached it from the south. Happy Skywatch Friday!

Thursday Challenge: simple

This photo has a simple subject, but the complication is that I don’t know what the plant is. First I thought comfrey, but I looked it up, and no. Then I thought Lambs’ Ears, but I looked THAT up, and it doesn’t grow in rosettes like this one. So, I don’t know. If anyone can enlighten me, I’d be grateful. It’s growing in a neighbor’s yard near my home in Seattle, Washington. [It appears to be Mullein. Thank you, Ms. Toastburner!]

For more ruminations on the theme of Simplicity, visit Thursday Challenge. And because I’m pretty sure it’s an herb, and that qualifies for Thinking Green, visit them for more ideas about being green.
