While we were camping at Deception Pass, our friends with a boat invited us to it for a drink. They keep the pretty cabin cruiser docked at the Cap Sante marina in Anacortes, WA, only a few minutes away from where we were. The magic of cellphones! Walking out to their slip, I was just blown away by the beauty of the sun, the water, and the scene. This one, too, is just straight out of the camera. Love those sunny days.

Strolling along the shore at Bowman Bay in Deception Pass State Park in Washington, I encountered this gorgeous pair of wooden kayaks. The light, the scenery, the kayaks made this one of my top fave shots, ever. It’s completely straight out of the camera (see SOOC Sunday for more), too: just all there waiting for me to click the shutter. And only seconds later, the owner of the beauteous boats came and dragged them to the parking lot, and that was that. You gotta be quick. When I went to the East coast in March, I was lucky enough to take some scenic drives, especially in Connecticut. You can’t go wrong with boats stacked on the beach, waiting for the good weather to come again. Especially with colors like these! Come to think of it, this would make a neat jigsaw puzzle, wouldn’t it?

Some scenes just beg for their picture to be taken. While all the world loves to photograph a hot air balloon, or, even better, a bunch of them at a balloon event—since that’s an extremely early-in-the-morning sort of deal, it’s not for me. But kayaks! Just sitting there, floating on the water of Puget Sound, waiting to be rented. Or photographed. I obliged. And I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.

Oh, it was a glorious Fourth! In addition to everything else, the weather was PERFECT and warm and totally sunny. We were at a party on the shore of little Lake Burien in Washington state, near Seattle. Dusk and calm and trees and water make for a happy scenic-photo person like myself.

The other day the sun was pouring through heavy clouds and I so wanted something lovely and scenic, but zipping along at freeway speeds and shooting across my husband’s arms and through the closed window (no time to open it!) I just clicked and hoped for something good. I think this one somehow has a very old-fashioned look, and you might think it’s monochrome except for the red windsocks. I’ll miss that viaduct when it’s gone.

Driving back from the Skagit Tulip Festival yesterday (more coming on that soon, you can be sure) there was a briefly unobstructed view of our glorious and wacky Space Needle, so I held up the camera to its vague direction and snapped. Yes, I clicked the shutter several times and later tossed most of them, but I always marvel at how digital has changed photography. In film days, you can bet that the shot would never have been good enough, shot from a moving car and through the windshield, and more important, I never would have “wasted” ten or 12 frames on such an unlikely capture. Digital rocks!

Puget Sound near Seattle has many moods. This one was bright and exuberant, or at least the camera angle makes me feel that way when I look at it. Hope it doesn’t make you dizzy!
