Magenta phalaenopsis orchid

These butterfly-shaped orchids are irresistable. I love the way there is a whole stream of them on one stem, one behind the other. I took this photo at Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle not too long ago. Orchids are amazing and there seem to be some in bloom throughout the entire year at the Conservatory. Whatever they do, it’s working.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday , Color Carnival , Pink Saturday and SOOC (straight out of the camera) if you have time. Great photos there.

While you are here, be sure to explore and do a search (orchid?) or a new tag (magenta?). And to get to the latest post and the full blog, click on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Rain drenched red rose

I took this old-fashioned rose photo at Highline Botanical Garden not too long ago. It’s a little garden (a few acres) right north of SeaTac Airport that’s just a delight, rain or shine. And the plants don’t mind the low-flying planes.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more red wonderfulness. And you might click on the tag “red” or the category of “Ruby Tuesday” while you’re here, hmm? Visit Watery Wednesday for more cyberwetness. You might also try Color Carnival, or Scenic Sunday. To reach the latest posts do click on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Yellow mums

These yellow chrysanthemums were in the entryway of the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle a week or so ago. Their full mum display hasn’t begun yet, and I can’t wait! I’ve always loved their spicy scent, so crisp and definitely a fall kind of smell.

Visit Mellow Yellow Monday and Macro Monday for things both yellow (the former) and closely seen (the latter), although not everyone does it in one photo like I tend to do. Also, check out the colors at Color Carnival! I really like it when a photo of mine fulfills the theme of several memes at once. That’s efficiency!

You might try a new tag or category while you’re still here. How about “yellow”? And remember, you can always get to the complete blog by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Apricot roses

Thought you’d like to see some roses from this summer, taken on the Federal Way Garden Tour in July. Seattle may have a lot of cloudy, gray weather, but the summers are glorious.

Visit Flowers for Today for more blooms around the world. It has neat shadows, so I’m entering it in the Shadow Shot Sunday meme, too. It’s straight out of the camera, or SOOC. And you’ll find more brilliant color in Color Carnival.

I totally love the sunlight and shadow on these perfect blooms, so I am tagging this post my Best Post of the Week.

If you’ve arrived via a link or a search, you can find the complete blog at Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above. But try a new tag here, first. Maybe “orange”?

'Elizabeth' dahlia

Last week at the Pike Place Market there were about a zillion kinds of dahlias, along with truckloads of armfuls of sunflowers and even some late oriental lilies perfuming up the place, all grown locally by the vendors. What a show. I now have a new favorite dahlia, called ‘Elizabeth’. To me it’s just the prettiest thing. I think those are white asters along with the dahlias.

Visit Pink Saturday and Macro Flowers Saturday for more exciting photography in blogland.

Yellow cactus flower

This beauty was taken this summer at the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle. Such delicacy contrasted with the massive strength and armed protectiveness of the cactus itself.

Visit Cactus Monday, Macro Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday for more neat photos with a theme.

Cosmos raindrops

We’ve had a LOT of rain. Seattle doesn’t actually get very much rain per year, only about 36″ in an average year. What we have a lot of, usually, is cloudy and dim. But this month has been quite rainy, and due to the late onset of summer, the plants were looking better than they usually do at this time.

Here’s a shot of my backyard cosmos after a recent downpour.

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for more great photos with a theme. And if you feel like it, try a new tag or category here, first. Return to the latest post here by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos here or above.

I like this photo very much, the graceful arc of the stem decorated with the rain gems really speaks to me, so I’ve tagged this post Best Post of the Week.

Dahlia macro

This was on a roadside dahlia flower stand, pretty simple operation, gorgeous blooms. I love the way a sort of gray day was transformed into an explosion of light.

Macro Monday, Color Carnival, SOOC (straight out of the camera) and Mellow Yellow Monday are very worthwhile sites to visit. And they’re good categories to check out, too, here at Sara’s Fave Photos blog.

Flower show begonia

As I mentioned in the post just below, I love going to garden club flower shows to ooh and aah at the “hort” (horticulture or plant displays). This picotee begonia was four or five inches across and it was just gorgeous.

Visit Pink Saturday for more perfect pinkness, Today’s Flower for flowers around the world and SOOC Sunday for more straight-out-of-the-camera shots.

The latest post can always be found here by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos above. And I always encourage you to try something new here each visit. Perhaps a category like Pink Saturday?

Flower show dahlia

I belong to a garden club and every few months the various local clubs get together and do a flower show. It’s one of my fave places to find perfect flowers to photograph.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday for more great close ups, SOOC for more straight-out-of-the-camera shots,  and Color Carnival for more brilliant color. And you might try the “close up” tag while you’re here.
