My sister drove me past this field on Friday. It is her favorite. She loves the faint magenta color of some of the plants, and the way there are soft drifts of color. When I asked her to stop the car so I could take a picture, she said, “I KNEW you’d want to do that.” She does know me, I guess.

Driving near Seatac (Seattle-Tacoma, in case you wondered) Airport recently, the weather was changing quite rapidly, and I thought you’d like to see this dramatic sky for Skywatch Friday. Yes, it rained hard not long afterwards! Visit Skywatch Friday for skies seen and posted from everywhere, through the magic of the internet.

This is from a couple of weeks ago when there were some fires burning, not sure where but far away, that for several days made our sunsets smoky but beautiful. Visit Skywatch Friday for more views of skies around the world.

Ah, gray Seattle! I can tell I’ve lived here a while when I start to get excited about different kinds of gray skies. The overlook near my house provides some scenic views, that’s for sure. Visit Scenic Sunday for more scenigasms.

After our anniversary dinner the other day, we took a little stroll along the pier, but it was too windy to stay long. You can see the Puget Sound water surface is not that smooth, but the rays of the sunset was welcome with its brilliant color enlivening the gray skies and dark water. Happy Skywatch Friday, everyone!

This mostly building photo gets included as a Skywatch post because the building seems to looks like part of the sky to me. I took this from the car on the upper West Side; I think we were on the Henry Hudson Parkway. If anyone knows what this building is, please let us know. [Later note: This is the IAC office building designed by Frank Gehry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Edificio_IAC_InterActiveCorp.JPG]

Looking at the sky from an airplane is only sort of a sky view, but when there are clouds right there, what else is it? Anytime I fly, it’s a reminder of how beautiful and huge our country is, and mostly seemingly empty.

While I was in New York, I stayed at my friends’ place on the 14th floor in Riverdale, in the Bronx. Here is a view from their apartment on three different days. The big bunch of green trees is Van Cortlandt Park, one of the largest city parks anywhere, I’m told.

Here’s a New York City shot for you. There was one perfect sunny day and I took advantage of it. I used to work in this building on the 53rd floor, so many years ago. The windows opened and you could hear the traffic like it was at street level, surprisingly.
Romantic note: My neighbors just got back from a trip to NYC and he proposed at the top of it!

I know I”ve lived in Seattle a long time when I begin to get excited about shades of gray in the clouds. This view of Puget Sound is from the overlook pretty close to my house. I believe the land out there to the southwest is Vashon Island, but I’m not certain.
I sure could use some puffy clouds in blue, but that’s what the other Skywatch entries are for. Click HERE to find some!
