Grape hyacinth buds

These blue-purple flowers grow so well in my Seattle garden, gently spreading every year. This stage is just the buds, getting started.

Fish hook cactus

I love this little cutie, and it blooms in the spring for me, even though there’s not a whole lot of sun for it here in Seattle, even in my south window. But be careful! Each flower is about a centimeter across, less than half an inch. The hairy stuff helps protect it from sun and water evaporation.

Happy Spring forsythia

Today is the first day of Spring in the northern hemisphere. Seattle’s weather still has lots of clouds and wet but my forsythia is in full bloom.

Roses and orchids

Someone sent me the most wonderful flowers as a get-well bouquet. I am beyond thrilled. It will help speed recovery for sure!

Valentine roses

Hubby is a traditionalist and brings me red roses every year. I love them. And him.

A dozen long-stemmed red roses, yes please.

Flower balls at Longwood

A trip down memory lane, to the other side of the year, the other side of the country…these huge flower balls are marvels of fantasy as well as engineering and horticulture.

Thanksgiving cactus, magenta and white

I used to call this a Christmas cactus but I learned that the leaves with the points are Thanksgiving cactuses (or cacti), and there are also Easter cactuses. But it’s not even Halloween yet!

Autumn roses

Not this year’s roses, but picked exactly at this time of year. Every year I reward myself with an autumn bouquet.

Perennial sunflowers in the wind

Before the rain there were some winds. These pretty, late-summer perennial sunflowers were loving it.
