It’s a long way to May, but I’m missing the pretty weather already. This photo is similar to one I posted before, but thought you wouldn’t mind another look into a Sonoma County, California vineyard, with both orange California poppies and the more European-looking red ones, in among the grapevines. I don’t know why I haven’t posted much about it, but I’ve been a busy bee with my new business, Love That Image glass tile jewelry. It’s made from the actual pages of my book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory. How it came about is that last year when I was at a craft fair with my daughter Lila, selling the Flowers book as a holiday gift, she saw all the crowds at neighboring booths selling jewelry and said, “Mom, why don’t we make jewelry from your book? I saw on Pinterest how to do that.” I was amazed at the whole idea and had no clue what she might be talking about.

Next thing I knew, we were in the jewelry business. Pinterest changed my life!

It’s a year later and we’ve learned a lot, experimented, and come up with so many pretty designs that the only problem is choosing. For now, we are selling to stores and in craft fairs only. We just had a spectacular success at the Kent WA Holiday Craft Market and we certainly will do that again next year. I so rarely get up really early (I am NOT a morning person) that it was just a fluke that on Friday when I had to, there was Mt. Rainier with snow on top, just visible from our backyard, all lit up with a peachy glow. It helped the early hour, believe me.

It’s been raining for three weeks straight, but the archives have lots of sunshine, thank goodness. Sometimes I just don’t want to go outside with the camera when it’s really dripping wet. Enjoy this autumn bliss!

If you’ve ever gone to Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market in the fall, you know to visit the pepper sellers. Every year they create these little works  of art, some with their primary colors even brighter against blue tarps. They are so pretty! Each year I buy one and use the peppers all year in soups and stews. You can make a LOT of spicy stew with one of these babies.

After weeks and weeks of sunshine in Seattle (I heard that we had over 72 days with blue skies!) it finally began to rain. I guess it had to happen. My garden is so relieved, I can tell you that. Hose watering just doesn’t do the job that rain does. We had quite a bit of water, and more is predicted, but this morning there was a sunshiny period so I went outside for a walk. Here are some wet and colorful autumn leaves with peeks of blue sky, for your enjoyment.

I went to the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle today. Be sure and see the Angels Trumpets (brugmansia) before they are finished blooming! I like brugmansia so much that I put them on the cover of my book. Look for a post about the ones I saw today soon.

As usual at the VPC, there is much beauty to see. This flame-colored orange hibiscus really caught my eye. It felt like I was in Hawaii!

The flowers for sale at Pike Place Market in Seattle, all locally grown, are the most beautiful I have ever seen, anywhere. The only problem I have is that the photos I take are so intense that I have a real problem choosing one to show. A good problem to have.

There are so many kinds of sunflowers these days. I kind of like the old fashioned kind that makes seeds in the middle. This one didn’t grow too tall, but it certainly was doing its thing, seed-wise. A few days later, the birds and squirrels had poked out some of its hypnotic perfection, but so it goes.

Sunday was Victorian Day, the special 100-year birthday party for one of my top fave places on the planet, the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle. The weather was perfect, and many, many people worked hard to make such a fun and creative event. The period costumes were fabulous! I love the pose of the woman and I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.
