White and pink ruffled daffodils

This is a new kind of daffodil for me. So sweet and romantic! They were in a nursery display potted up for folks and I almost bought some. But the rain we’ve been having would probably have ruined them outside. I heard that Seattle has had the coldest spring on record, so I feel a teensy bit justified in my complaining.

Visit Macro Friday, Pink Saturday, Today’s Flowers, Macro Monday, Mellow Yellow Monday and SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) for other fascinating photography. While you’re here, check out more photos in this blog by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos.

Pink tulips against a cloudy sky

Even on a gray and cloudy day, pink tulips are glorious and uplifting. These pink and white beauties were at the Skagit Tulip Festival earlier this week. You locals, go TODAY! Warm and sunny, yes!!!

Pink Saturday has pretty pinkness and this week, Easter themed photos. Also visit Today’s Flowers, Macro Monday, Macro FridayColor Carnival, Outdoor Wednesday and Flowers on Saturday. Yellow parrot tulip

At the Skagit Tulip Festival on my birthday earlier this week, of course I took many photos. Naturally! The light was quite overcast, which is not my favorite for photographing flowers, no matter what the experts say. They just seem so much more exuberant in the sunshine, or maybe I’m projecting. But you do get lots of detail in the color. I admit I needed to tweak this one a bit to bring up the liveliness of it. Hope you like it.

Spring flowers

Took this in the ever-present rain a couple of weeks ago. I like the jewel tones of the colors and think I might do something like this in my garden next year. Doesn’t the daffodil look like it’s holding its arms up?

Daffodils in the garden

Finally a weekend day with sunshine! Yesterday I had such a happy half hour down there with the camera and the flowers blooming; these days it’s mostly too wet to even see them up close. Photo tip: Put your camera on its flower setting and get down there to get some background in that will be blurry. Simple but effective.

Mystery red tropical flower

I have no idea what kind of flower this is. It was blooming recently in the Volunteer Park Conservatory, and I was taken aback by its perfect beauty. Any of our blog readers from Singapore, the Phillipines or Malaysia, perhaps, know its name? [Thank you, Flitterkit of California, telling us it’s a red passion flower!]

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more photos with some red. Macro Monday, Color CarnivalMacro Friday, Today’s Flowers, SOOC Sunday are all great places in blogland as well. Click on the Sara’s Fave Photos banner above to show the full blog here.

White daffodils

I love the purity and delicacy of white daffodils. I took this at Volunteer Park Conservatory recently. Some day I’m going to have them coming up in my yard. Last year I bought a whole lot of “mixed” daffs but was disappointed to find them all plain yellow when they came up. Not that there’s anything wrong with yellow daffodils, it’s just that I really like the white fancy kinds, too. What kinds do you grow?

Visit Macro Monday, Macro Friday, Mellow Yellow Monday and Flowers on Saturday. I didn’t tweak this one at all, so it’s good for SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), too. It’s neat shadows qualify for Shadow Shot Sunday, as well. Check out Free Photos next door to see what’s new, and do click onthe  Sara’s Fave Photos banner on top if you see only one image below.

Red and orange tulips

This is from this time last year. We are so not up to fields of blooming tulips yet with this cold and wet spring. Soon there will be real spring weather but until then, let us gaze upon the glory of tulips!

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more photos with red in them. Color Carnival, Macro Monday, Outdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, SOOC Sunday, and Today’s Flowers are great, too. I wish there was a meme for sunshine. Someone? Don’t forget to click on Sara’s Fave Photos if there’s only one photo showing here.

Yellow tulip macro

Tulips are such fun. They are a bit slow coming this year, what with all the rain and cold here in Seattle, so this is from an earlier year. But soon we will see them! I learned recently from gardening expert Ciscoe Morris that if you plant them in your garden and want to leave them in the ground, plant them deep, which I knew, but do not plant things over them that you will water during the summer. They must stay dry in the summer, otherwise they will rot. That explains a lot. Now I just have to think of a place to plant some where I will not want to put in anything over them that will need water. Hmmm.

Fall cosmos in the rain

We have plenty of rain right now, but not the pretty, tall flowers nodding in it, yet. This macro of a mauve pink cosmos flower, grown from seed and drooping with rain in my backyard last September, will remind all of us gardeners that the season of blossoms and lushness will come again.

Visit Watery Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, Macro Friday, Pink Saturday, Today’s Flower and Wordless Wednesday for more photo fun. Before you run off, take a look at the newest photos “next door” at Free Photos, and maybe a tag like Flowers or Rain here (at the right).
