Pink peonies

At the Pike Place Market it’s finally peony season at the fresh flower vendors in the North Arcade. They all grow their own, you know. The peonies in my backyard are remaining tightly closed balls with all the wet and cool weather we’ve been having here in Seattle (and it’s almost summer!), but these beauties are open, to my admiration. Their lush perfection is heaven on a stem, as far as I am concerned.

Visit Pink Saturday and Macro Flowers Saturday, as well as Color Carnival and SOOC (straight out of the camera). And another Pink Saturday participant I’m sure you’ll like is One Perfect Bite. Her recipes and photos both are just fabulous.

Rhododendrons

Did you know that rhododendron means red roots? Actually, when I was digging near an old one in my garden, I noticed that the roots were bright yellow, but they did have a reddish coating on them.

These perfect rhodies are from a big garden I saw few weeks ago, and it feels like the sunshine has not been here since then, either. But I digress. I just don’t get tired of flowers, and I hope you don’t, either.

Fuchsias

The Conservatory at Volunteer Park in Seattle is full of fuchsias right now. And they are phenomenal. Worth a visit, even in the pouring rain like we’ve had recently. I just love the vitality of these dancing flowers.

Sunset rainbow in Port Townsend

Our recent getaway to Port Townsend had some fine photo ops. This view towards Whidbey Island was about as scenic as it gets, with pink sky reflected on water, AND a rainbow, in case the view wasn’t pretty or colorful enough.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies seen around the world, and try Weekend Reflections and Scenic Sunday, too. And remember, you can always click on Sara’s Fave Photo on top for the latest post.

Late tulips

Last week there were still some tulips blooming at Pike Place Market flower vendors’ North Arcade. I continue to love, love, love tulips.

Visit Flowers for Today, Pink Saturday (sorry, a bit late there) and Color Carnival after your stay here. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos above to return to today’s post and the full blog.

Tulips in cellophane

These tulips at Pike Place Market are all ready to present as a gift, wrapped and ready. I love how the clear wrapping softens the light on them.

I like this photo very much. I’m tagging it Best Post of the Week.

Late tulips

A recent visit to Pike Place Market flower vendors showed that tulips stll are showing strong. A few irises and peonies have arrived, but tulips still rule the roost. For awhile, anyway. I think they are ravishing and can’t get enough.

Visit Pink Saturday for more blissful pinkness. Color Carnival has more brilliant colors for you. And remember, you can always return to the main blog page by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos in the header.

Croton plant

My mom used to grow a big hedge of these croton plants in Southern Florida. I’ve tried to grow them as houseplants, without too much success. But this healthy specimen in the Volunteer Park Conservatory was just waiting to show off for the camera. Almost looks like a flower, doesn’t it?

Lilacs and tulips

These lilacs were growing in a neighbor’s front yard on a recent walk. The sky was quite gray and overcast but the magic of a digital camera gave me an exposure that’s almost sunshiny. On the same walk, another neighbor’s Blushing Lady tulips really made me envious. Last year I had some Blushing Lady tulips that were the stars of my spring garden, with huge, almost 6″ blossoms on stems almost a yard (meter) tall. This year they totally failed to come back, where other tulips happily multiplied. But at least my neighbor has had success with them. Aren’t they pretty?

More pink dogwood

We’ve had mostly very gray skies lately, and cool temperatures, but we did have a sunbreak or two and I got to get this photo of our pink dogwood tree.
