The last sunny day we had around here, at least one I have photos from, was March 19. Three weeks! It a view looking north at the Cove beach at Normandy Park, WA, in the Pacific Northwest, in the “convergence zone.” Today they do predict sunny weather, but it’s solid clouds as I write this. Sigh. It’s true yesterday we did have a sunbreak, and I finally got to take a few photos of the bulbs flowering in the yard (which I will show shortly), but how can you enjoy them if it’s cold and cloudy all the time?

Enough complaining. That’s what photos are for, to transport us to another time and place. In a sunbreak a couple of days ago, I took advantage of the great spring weather to head out to one of my favorite haunts, the Volunteer Park Conservatory, one of Seattle’s true hidden gems. They have redone the entry and it is so fabulous! Now a curved space greets you and you feel surrounded by the tropical foliage and flowers. And the shadows of the Peacock Window are a bonus.

A neighborhood fishing pier in Des Moines, Washington, out over the waters of Puget Sound. Since it’s been raining and wintry for it feels like months and months unendingly, I thought I’d go to the archives for a sunny day to cheer us up here in the Pacific Northwest. I like it here but sometimes the weather really gets to me. I want to go outside and garden! This photo is my Best Post of the Week.

Well, my hubby’s love, anyway. I love being able to receive a bunch of beautiful flowers at least once in awhile. Flowers are a feast for the senses and for the sense of mystery they engender. Why do we love them so much? They have such brief beauty, and then to the compost pile, but they comfort and delight us so. Have you ever noticed that so many people give each other flowers on important occasions? Why is that? But they are magical, and their meaning always seems just beyond words. So here is an image, instead.

Everyone loves receiving flowers in different color arrangements, whether it’s for a special day or just as a sweet surprise.

That brief trip to Northern California last month is still yielding some neat images. Who doesn’t like reflections on a still lake in the sunshine? Spring Lake is in Santa Rosa, California, about an hour north of San Francisco. Seems like it was roughly the same hiking distance around as Green Lake in Seattle, about an hour or so. I love being outdoors near water!

When I was a kid I didn’t like radishes—too sharp and spicy for me. But now they seem to taste quite a bit milder than they used to. I think they grow different varieties, or maybe my taste buds changed. In any case, aren’t they beautiful to look at, if not to cut into the salad?
