Seattle waterfront

The other day the sun was pouring through heavy clouds and I so wanted something lovely and scenic, but zipping along at freeway speeds and shooting across my husband’s arms and through the closed window (no time to open it!) I just clicked and hoped for something good. I think this one somehow has a very old-fashioned look, and you might think it’s monochrome except for the red windsocks. I’ll miss that viaduct when it’s gone.

Visit Skywatch Friday, Scenic Sunday, Watery Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, and Window Views for more photos with a theme (photo memes). Be sure to browse around here first. Try a new tag or category at right, perhaps?

Big white puffy clouds

I think it’s so neat that you can see the white cloud reflected in the water. I don’t remember seeing that before, although I must have, mustn’t I? This taken just the other day at my favorite overlook over Puget Sound, looking south. Hope your day is a blue sky and puffy clouds type of day.

Visit Skywatch Friday, Scenic Sunday, Blue Monday, Weekend Reflections, Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for more fascinating photos. Naturally, I’d love it if you browsed around here first. Clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos brings you back to the latest post here always.

Lupine leaves with water jewel

This leaf star from the yard earlier this week. I will have some flowers to show you soon, but it’s Watery Wednesday so rain jewels are called for.

News flash: My book is getting closer to reality. It’s going to be about the flowers at Volunteer Park Conservatory. Lots of work, believe me, but of course with my very best, most gorgeous photos of their incredible blooms and foliage, followed throughout the year of changing flora. I hope to be able to start taking orders in just a few weeks for August delivery. You can be sure I will keep everyone posted. I’m so excited!

In the meantime, lots of good work all over. Visit Outdoor Wednesday, Thursday Challenge (Wet), Macro Friday, Macro Monday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) and Wordless Wednesday for lots of photo phun. Do try a new tag or category here first as long as you’re here. And if you see only one photo below, click on the Sara’s Fave Photos banner for the whole blog.

Dungeness Recreation Area at dusk

I just felt like revisiting and sharing this scene, from a camping trip we took last August to the Dungeness Recreation Area near Sequim (pronounced skwim) on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. This area gets much, much more sunshine than the surrounding areas including Seattle, let alone the rainforest. There is a simple trail along the bluff over the water that is astoundingly scenic. The water is Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, I believe, with Canada a short bit across the water to the right. I hope you enjoy this vista. I like it so much I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Visit Outdoor Wednesday, Watery Wednesday, Skywatch Friday, Scenic Sunday, Pink Saturday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) and Wordless Wednesday for more photo fantasticness. Portland Japanese Garden in Spring

If you’re ever in the Portland, Oregon area in the springtime, this place is a must-see. Enormous, magnificent, and brilliantly conceived and tended, it just knocked my socks off. Rain or shine, a scenic wonderland. Please see Free Photos “next door” (link below the header above) for more from that locale. You can search there for Japanese garden if that series is no longer at the top.

I love this photo and have called it my Best Post of the Week.

Mini Spring bouquet

This Spring is late, late, late. I checked my garden photo archives and this sweet mini-bouquet was taken last year, two weeks before this date, and we are not up to several of these flowers quite yet. I did see a few lilies of the valley out there, yes on the violets, and the forget-me-nots definitely, but not yet for the blue bachelor buttons or lavender scabiosa. I don’t know what that magenta one is; maybe a kind of geranium. Soon all will bloom. We are waiting!

Visit Watery Wednesday (the water in the vase counts, doesn’t it?) and Wordless Wednesday for more photo fun. Also check out Today’s Flowers, Macro Friday, Blue Monday, Color Carnival and Macro Monday. After browsing around here, of course. Dusk overlooking Puget Sound

This was taken exactly one year ago, around the block from my house. Sunsets have an eternal quality, although they are so brief in reality. I do love this time of day with its soft, pink light, and hope you like this view of a peaceful moment.

Cirrus clouds or mares’ tails

These high, wispy clouds are some of my favorites. They are a high pressure kind of thing, but I think mean that low pressure, or rain, is on the way. I just love the streaky look they have, sort of painted on the sky. This is that fishing pier in Des Moines, WA, that you’ve seen in other photos below, from a different angle.

Sun diamonds on the water

Here’s a view of Puget Sound with the sun brilliantly reflecting on the water, but dark and rainy clouds over Vashon Island in the distance. That’s our Seattle-area weather, when we’re lucky.

Typical gray Seattle skies with Space Needle

Driving back from the Skagit Tulip Festival yesterday (more coming on that soon, you can be sure) there was a briefly unobstructed view of our glorious and wacky Space Needle, so I held up the camera to its vague direction and snapped. Yes, I clicked the shutter several times and later tossed most of them, but I always marvel at how digital has changed photography. In film days, you can bet that the shot would never have been good enough, shot from a moving car and through the windshield, and more important, I never would have “wasted” ten or 12 frames on such an unlikely capture. Digital rocks!

Visit Skywatch Friday for more sky scenes from around the world. Outdoor Wednesday, Watery Wednesday and Scenic Sunday all have worthwhile images to browse. Yours, too, perhaps? If there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for others.
