This lovely scene was one of the displays at the NW Flower & Garden Show last week. Well done, I thought. This year’s show was filled with great stuff, especially for a flower and scenic photo enthusiast like me. And I thought that the lighting was a bit better in most of the displays, also. I hate flash and this light looks almost like outdoors to me. My camera (little Canon S90) was able to shoot this at 1/25, which is why the water looks so soft and almost steamy. Kind of odd, but pretty, too. And not bad for hand held!

This was taken a few weeks ago at an indoor fountain in the Seattle Design Center, south of downtown. My first visit, and what a great space it is! Lots of interior-design related offerings like furniture and art. Huge and skylit. I loved it.

The theme for Thursday Challenge this week is Movement. I thought this was appropriate. It’s a lovely Rorschach test, too. What do YOU see? I see a dog jumping towards me. And I like the sort of mysterious lighting from underneath.

In the fall, on a boat out of Anacortes, WA, we saw this great blue heron and some seals resting at the edge of one of the islands. We didn’t want to get too close to disturb them. I was told they are either harbor seals or sea lions. Does anyone know for sure which they are?

Since this is such an unusual photo for me, and how many Blue Herons do I get to see posing, anyway, I’m categorizing this as my Best Post of the Week.

That brief trip to Northern California last month is still yielding some neat images. Who doesn’t like reflections on a still lake in the sunshine? Spring Lake is in Santa Rosa, California, about an hour north of San Francisco. Seems like it was roughly the same hiking distance around as Green Lake in Seattle, about an hour or so. I love being outdoors near water!

Gray and rainy out today (nothing new there) so a dip into the archives yields this pretty blue urn, setting off the hydrangeas so nicely. And of course the shadow is what caught my eye first, being the shadow junkie that I am. Thanks for that, Tracy!

I’ve posted about this unusual flat fountain before, but I thought you might like another look at it in the mysterious dark colors of the night. I was lucky enough to have tickets to the Cinderella ballet by the Pacific Northwest Ballet at McCaw Hall, and to me, the great building and surrounding area is almost as much fun as the performance.

Spring Lake, in Santa Rosa, California, just a week or so ago was so scenic! Even in the depth of winter, Northern California Wine Country just doesn’t get too dreary. The duck likes it, anyway!

Yesterday was a rare sunny day, so even though it was cold I went out for a walk, and was happy that the view of Puget Sound and the sky from the Normandy Park, Washington overlook, quite near my house, was even more beautiful than usual. This late day light is my favorite time of day.

Skywatch Friday has more incredible skies from photographers all around the world (this week the guest “photo” is an awesome time-laspe sky video, complete with shooting stars!), and Scenic Sunday has more great scenery. Do take a look.

What a blessing is a sunny day in Northern California. Spring Lake Park is in Santa Rosa, with many wineries close by, but even without the vineyards the landscape is beautiful. Last week there was weather for a little hike around the lake. Weren’t we lucky?
