Sara's Fave Photos Blog

Check out my new book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory. And welcome to Sara's Fave Photos Blog at Love That Image. My goal is to take a photo that is as compelling and beautiful as in real life, with no or minimal Photoshop work. You may copy a photo but link to lovethatimage.com. Maple leaves macro

I feel such frustration when the light is good and I can’t go outside and find something glorious in it to photograph. But sometimes gray light has its compensations. This maple tree was in a parking lot.

Apple macro

Hope you’re not tired of all the red colors in recent posts. Fall seems to do that to me sometimes. Here’s a apple for you from an outdoor display.

Art Deco staircase

This magnificent staircase lives at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The Seattle Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild had a meetup there the other evening. It was foggy and quiet out and the museum was a perfect place to relax and marvel at human artistry. I love this image and am calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Laceleaf Japanese maple

The leaves are so beautiful now. Even when I can’t take the time to drive around and find scenic vistas like I’d like to, just a quick stroll around the neighborhood shows such brilliance at this time of year.

It’s been foggy

Seattle has had a highly unusual weather situation. It’s been foggy for a week! This is what the view from my yard looked like yesterday.

Hardy fuchsia

One of the late-blooming flowers in my garden is the hardy fuchsia. These small flowers, only an inch or so big (3 cm), just keep on going. Last winter wasn’t too cold so this year the branches didn’t have to start from scratch, and the plant is about tall as my waist. In all the fog Seattle has been having, the color sure looks good to me.

Spider web

This dew-jeweled spider web was so pretty the other morning. I appreciated the scenic red bush behind it.

Coleus

These coleus plants are growing near my front door. I grew them from seed, which is surprisingly easy, as seeds go. If you find the seeds, don’t be afraid to try it. It’s time to take cuttings indoors to root in water, for bigger plants next year. They are very frost tender and hate the cold weather but do fine as houseplants if they have good light.

Blooming cactus

This photo is by Jacinta Moore and if I could have figured out a way to ask her permission I would have, and I sure hope she doesn’t mind. I love this image! But check out her Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bawkbawk/. And by the way, did you know that Google Images has a reverse search for the author of an image that you have the link to? You go to the Google Images main page, and in the search bar is a little image of a camera. Click on it, then enter the URL of the photo you are trying to search for and most of the time it finds where it came from. Thanks, Lila!

Late red and white dahlia

A lot has died back in the yard (goodbye lemon cucumbers) but some things are actually going pretty strong. This red and white dahlia blossom with almost cup-like petals is still doing its perky, cheerful thing in my garden.
