Well, sunset comes early now, that’s for sure, so we just have to enjoy it when we can. I missed a really spectacular sunset last week with just a glimpse as I drove along, so I was extra happy to see this sweet one that I could photograph, even if just delicate pink and not red. I’ll take it. And do you notice almost a rainbow reflection in the water? I can’t quite figure it out. I love the mysterious reflection and I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.
Stop by Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Weekend Reflections, Skywatch Friday, Pink Saturday, and Watery Wednesday for lot of photos on a theme. Happy note: Only 16 days ’til the solstice means just 32 days until days are lengthening and longer than today!

I was at the lighting ceremony at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory last night, and it was exciting to see that amazing structure outlined in lights. I had never been there at night and it was strange to see “my” beloved flowers and plants in the almost spooky shadows. Of course I had to take a photo anyway. Here’s a pretty poinsettia for you, and the lights!

When my daughter was visiting recently, we went to a crafts fair to exhibit the Flowers book and were envious of all the traffic (and sales!) at nearby jewelry booths. Since she has made jewelry and is “crafty,” she got the idea of making jewelry from a copy of the book and next thing I knew, she’d ordered supplies and we were off and running. Made from glass tiles and a damaged copy of the book, each piece is unique! We’ve made pendant necklaces, earrings and magnets. Still not ready to offer online, but hoping to do that soon. You can see the pretty things in person tomorrow and Sunday, Dec. 4, if you are in the Seattle area. See the Media page (Upcoming Events) for details.

You have to love nice weather after a rain. Nothing makes a walk better than to come across a scene like this one, wandering around the neighborhood. This was over a week ago and by now those leaves are history, I am sure, but, like a flower in bloom, they were good while they lasted.
Visit Watery Wednesday, Mellow Yellow Monday, Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, Shadow Shot Sunday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) and Weekend Reflections for some fascinating photographic fun. Before the pretty leaf season is well and truly over, I wanted to post this image I took in a parking lot a few weeks ago. I’ve never done a nighttime shot of the outdoor, natural world that I’ve liked so much. Hope you like it also.

A visit to a friend’s garden yielded some actual flowers blooming. These little pretties look as good from the back as the front, I think.

We had some big wind, and that means the pretty leaves are leaving. Sigh. They were so very lovely this year. Let’s give thanks for their show for us, shall we? An attitude of gratitude is the way to live life, all year round.

This was taken earlier this week in Seattle’s Volunteer Park at the Asian Art Museum, close by the Volunteer Park Conservatory, which loyal readers of this blog know that I love so much that I did a book on it. It’s a perfect gift for gardeners or anyone who loves flowers, and it’s so relaxing and soothing that health care professionals adore it for their waiting rooms. In keeping with my six-month opposite date for blog posts when it’s gray outside (see post below), here is some bleeding heart (dicentra) from my next door neighbor’s garden, taken in May. Ah, the sunshine! Since Seattle is quite north, these lovelies can do all right even with some sun, but when I gardened in Northern California, they needed to be in shade only.
Visit Ruby Tuesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Outdoor Wednesday, Pink Saturday, Shadow Shot Sunday, Today’s Flowers, Weekend Flowers, Macro Friday, Macro Monday, and Macro Flowers Saturday for tons of fun in photo blogs around the world. Sometimes when I get a real desire for photos of flowers and there’s nothing outside looking good, I find that the ones that satisfy are almost exactly six months opposite today’s date in the archives. So enjoy these rhododendron blossoms from May of this year. We’ll get there again, somehow.
