Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden

Went to visit a friend in New York and we went to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. I had never seen the huge rose garden there, which was at its peak. If you can ever go, do so. This is less than half of it.

Crab cakes at Chihuly

I don’t usually post food photos, but this was spectacular! We went to the Chihuly Collections Cafe in Seattle and my crab cakes were almost too pretty to eat. But not quite!

Dappled path

In the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden in Seattle, a brilliantly sun-dappled path invites a stroll.

Old trees overarch this path in the park on a sunny May day.

Bees love weigela

I learned that weigela (why-GHEEL-a) is related to honeysuckle. No wonder its sweet smell attracts bees!

In praise of mothering

You don’t have to be a mother to mother someone. Extra warmth and kindness makes anyone feel loved.

Mt. Baker Beach

Was lucky enough to have a little picnic the other day at a new place to me, Mt. Baker Beach. Here’s the pier:

And here’s the little park where we had a picnic. Isn’t that inviting?

Big leaves

This perennial plant with huge leaves emerging at the Seatac Highline Botanical Garden might be ‘Smaragd’ bronzeleaf rodgersia (R. podophylla ‘Smaragd’) because that’s what looks closest on google images. Let me know if that’s not right.

Toothed and notched huge leaves of bronzeleaf rodgersia. I think.

Pink dogwood

This year the spring flowers seem even more spectacular than usual. Seattle does spring very well indeed.

Orchid cactus

These giant orchid cactus now at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory are each as big as my hand!
