Brugmansia

A friend gave me a rooted cutting of this tropical Angels Trumpet plant a year and a half ago and how it’s almost as tall as I am. And this summer it bloomed! At night the whole house has its sweet perfume wafting through it.

Hardy fuchsia

One of the late-blooming flowers in my garden is the hardy fuchsia. These small flowers, only an inch or so big (3 cm), just keep on going. Last winter wasn’t too cold so this year the branches didn’t have to start from scratch, and the plant is about tall as my waist. In all the fog Seattle has been having, the color sure looks good to me.

Blooming cactus

This photo is by Jacinta Moore and if I could have figured out a way to ask her permission I would have, and I sure hope she doesn’t mind. I love this image! But check out her Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bawkbawk/. And by the way, did you know that Google Images has a reverse search for the author of an image that you have the link to? You go to the Google Images main page, and in the search bar is a little image of a camera. Click on it, then enter the URL of the photo you are trying to search for and most of the time it finds where it came from. Thanks, Lila!

Spring cherry tree

Not too many flowers blooming around the neighborhood right now, so I’m posting an image for our Southern hemisphere friends: cherry blossoms from the opposite season, from a tree close to my old house in Des Moines, WA.

Turquoise succulent

I don’t know what kind of succulent this is, which was growing in Wallingford, a Seattle neighborhood. It’s not a hen-and-chicks sedum, because it grows on stalks, maybe a foot high. Anyone know what it is? I love the way the rosette centers look like flowers.

Dahlia bouquet with lilies

At the Renton (WA) Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, I was surprised to see these bouquets of dahlias that included intensely fragrant lilies. The ones in my garden have long been finished. I bought some and the entire house is filled with their scent.

Pink gerbera daisy

These pretty gerbera daisy flowers were in a florist shop, begging me to take them home. Such sweet pinkness!

Yellow brugmansia

This Angels Trumpet, or brugmansia, is not in my garden but I did grow one this year and I can tell you, they have a heavenly, sweet, delightful fragrance. No wonder they call them Angels Trumpets, and not just for their graceful shape!
