Blanket Flower, Gaillardia

These perky flowers were at a home I visited recently. I was so impressed with how healthy and vigorous they are. I learned from Digital Flower Pictures, (link on my blogroll to the left) that they are called Blanket Flowers. I like them!

Happy Ruby Tuesday to all. Check out more rubiness there, seen by eager eyes around the blogosphere.

And hello to the Color Carnival folks. Is this bright enough, do you think?

Ruby lanterns

That trip to New York City’s Chinatown was a great photo excursion. Here’s a Ruby Tuesday post for you, full of good luck red lanterns. Visit there for lovely visions of red of all kinds.

I think this is bright enough for Color Carnival, too. Check out all the bright colors!

By the way, has anyone had experience, good or bad, with CafePress.com? I’m thinking of making some notecards and such to sell there. With my fave photos, of course! Any advice about that? Thanks in advance for sharing any experiences selling (or buying) with them.

Roses for Today's Flower

I don’t usually like flower photos with insects, but I’m making an exception for this bee working the red rose. But then again, the non-bee one is pretty nice, too. Which do you prefer?

Happy Birthday, Shree!

Today is my dear sister-in-law Shree’s birthday. We were together in the fabulous Steinhardt Garden in Mt. Kiscoe recently, and what a photo op she provided with her slicker and umbrella. A Ruby Tuesday post just for you, and many happy returns!

Chinatown lichees, oops, rambutans

We went to Chinatown when I was in New York and it was so fun. I had never seen fresh lichees in their shells, only canned (looking like eyeballs but tasting heavenly) and dried, in rough, thin brown shells. I had no idea in the world they looked like this! Well, actually I thought they were lichees, but no, readers tell me they are rambutans! Here’s a link with the difference.

I’m participating in a new photo meme, Color Carnival. If you like color, and I sure do, check it out!

"What-cake" for Ruby Tuesday

The story in our family is that Mom would make the requested strawberry shortcake for a birthday, but since it had to be kept refrigerated until after dinner, when we saw it there after school she would pretend that we were dreaming and say, “Cake? What cake? There’s no cake there,” so that we could all enjoy the “surprise” later. Mom is gone now, but What-cake lives on. Here’s the one, almost exactly like she used to make, from my recent birthday.

Ruby red tree

Red trees aren’t just a fall thing. The tree across from my new house went from bare branches to pinkish, to red, and for all I know gets to purple, but right now it’s such a lovely ruby color, especially in the late afternoon light. Happy Spring to all!

Red camellia for Ruby Tuesday

Spring is so wonderful. Here’s a perfect red camellia for Ruby Tuesday, from the huge old shrub in my backyard. No fragrance, but their almost mandala-like circle of petals is hypnotic to me. And they bloom early!

Fireworks for Ruby Tuesday and Blog Anniversary!

It’s been a full year since I began this blog adventure. Those of you who blog yourselves know what a huge part of my life this has become. I enjoy it so much! The opportunity to show people photos I have taken that I like very much, my faves, is such a blessing. Thank you to all who have come and looked, and a special thank you to those who have taken the time to leave feedback. Remember, comments on improving my skills are always welcome, so comment away.

This photo was taken at Burning Man festival in Black Rock, NV. I only wish the photo could really show how stupendously enormous it was. The person in the lower left was fairly close to me, not that close to the fireworks. A good thing, too!

Red geraniums for Ruby Tuesday

Here’s a look at something red—taken in August, but what the heck. It was at a truly specacular private garden in Camano Island, WA. Doesn’t it feel warm and balmy?
