Tulips aren’t actually blooming yet, but they will be. Today’s weather had snow, hail, sun, and lots of rain and wind, but this look into a tulip from last spring is what is on my mind. Oh, the dreaming.

Here’s a shot of late July glads from my last garden in the Des Moines WA house. They are so easy to grow and increase by themselves. And do you see the red cherry in the background? I did bring some corms to the new place, but it will take a bit before they reach this density.

Here’s a shot from November of leaves on the amazing red-bark maple below. I thought you’d like to see that the stems and twigs are really red, no fooling.

This is actually a Japanese maple tree of some sort. Doesn’t it look amazing? The red is RED, full on. It’s taken from my neighbor’s, looking at my front yard. It will almost be a shame when the leaves come out.

I took this in Berkeley, California right before Valentine’s Day a year or two ago. It was a great store. I especially liked the old paper valentines they had from the 50s saying things like “You Are Nice” and other tender messages.

Out on a walk the other day, cold though it was, I found a long fence completely covered in some kind of red berry plant. I have no idea what it is. Does anyone know? But oh so red, and oh so welcome on a gray and gloomy Seattle January day.

Another post from the archives for Ruby Tuesday. This photo is one of my top faves, taken at a small town Northern California farmers market years ago. Hope you enjoy this depiction of abundance and the brilliant beauty of summer, which will come again! For more rubiness around the world, click HERE.

It’s winter here in Seattle and the two weeks of snow is gone, but summer is far away and seems almost impossible, somehow. But here are strawberries from July, sweet as sugar, to feast the eyes on, at least. For more ideas about the color red, click HERE.

This amaryllis is sitting on my windowsill, with our snowy landscape for the background. It is a ruby thing of beauty, I think. And has a bonus for me, too: not one, but two flower stems from the same bulb. For more Rubiness, click HERE.

The autumn is well advanced; most of the pretty leaves are off the trees. But these strawberry leaves are showing an almost Christmas color scheme.
