Our last camping trip gave us some great shadow opportunities as well as the blessings of a warm, sunny day, softly shielded from the sun’s bright rays by the forest canopy. You can imagine how fresh the air smelled. For more shadows of all kinds, please visit Shadow Shot Sunday. People are so creative with shadows!

On Wednesday the weather was heaven and we were camping at Lake Cushman, WA. Here is what it looked like in the evening, wading at the shore.

Oh, the joys of a sunny day are so much magnified when spotting shadows is your game. Here’s a bouquet of shadow shapes for you today, aka a tree. If you crave yet more of the ephemeral penumbra, visit Hey Harriet’s blog at Shadow Shot Sunday. It’s one of the best places in the blogosphere.

I am so happy to see the sweetpeas finally taking off. I planted them from seed myself, and that always adds to the gardening enjoyment, I find. And sweetpeas love to be picked! You can only enhance and prolong the blooming period by picking them as they come into flower. Of course, I always leave a few.

This tree was blooming so intensely in my recent trip to the Bronx (New York) Botanical Garden. On Wednesdays you can walk through the grounds for free. Such a deal! I’ll post a photo every now and then from that amazing trip; must save some for the long Seattle winter of no flowers. Hope you like it.
I found out about a Pink Saturday photo meme, and it looks delightful. This ought to qualify!

Red trees aren’t just a fall thing. The tree across from my new house went from bare branches to pinkish, to red, and for all I know gets to purple, but right now it’s such a lovely ruby color, especially in the late afternoon light. Happy Spring to all!

Alert the newspapers, spring has been sighted! I saw these branches blooming in downtown Seattle a couple of days ago, while all else remains bare. As I circled the (cherry blossom? or flowering plum?) branch in full digital-camera-mode of taking LOTS to choose from later, a woman passerby said, “C’mon, spring!” and I couldn’t agree more.

The only good thing about the short days is that the slanted light is still there when I get up. I am not an early riser. It was quite cold the other morning, but the mustang horse in the pasture next door doesn’t seem to mind any weather at all.
