Campfire

Have I mentioned how much I love camping? A tent, in the woods, the whole thing. I just love the air outdoors, the oxygen. And what could be better than a campfire? Just the quiet sounds of the flames whispering, the logs snapping, the crickets. I could stare at this for a long, long time.

Visit Thursday Challenge (Fire), Outdoor Wednesday, Color Carnival, Scenic Sunday, Macro Monday, Macro Friday, Mellow Yellow Monday and SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera). And if there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos to see them all.

Red chairs in Poulsbo

Visiting Poulsbo, WA last week for the first time (locals pronounce it POLS-bo) we had some coffee looking out at Liberty Bay. Nice, huh? Nobody does a great summer day like the Seattle area, in this case, on the Kitsap peninsula, an hour or two from Seattle. An extremely cute Norwegian town, perfect for a summer afternoon.

Take a look at Watery WednesdayOutdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, Shadow Shot Sunday, Ruby Tuesday and Color Carnival for some fascinating photo fun. You might try a new tag or category here before you go, though. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos to get to the newest post here.

Brugmansia macro

Brugmansia, or Angels Trumpet, is such a magnificent flower. Taken at a recent Volunteer Park Conservatory event, you can tell this flower, about the size of my hand, is one of my top faves because I used its pink cousins on the cover of my book. They’re quite challenging to photograph, at least if you want them to look as graceful and elegant in your photo as they do when you’re looking at them. How a flower like this can look awkward I do not know, but it happens.

Mellow Yellow Monday, Today’s Flowers, Macro Monday, Macro Flowers Saturday and Macro Friday are neat places to visit. Try Color Carnival, too. Remember, if there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the others. Thank you for visiting!

Pineapple lily

Just this afternoon we went to our neighbors’ house to deliver a book they’d ordered and see their lovely garden and of course I couldn’t help taking a few photos. That’s what happens when you use a camera truly pocket sized; you HAVE it with you. Here are some really fascinating pineapple lilies in their backyard and below that, their incredible deck with the Picasso petunias and the tall yellow brugmansia, or Angels Trumpet. We are enjoying the fabulous weather while the east coast suffers with Hurricane Irene. At least someone’s having it good.

Visit  Scenic Sunday, Mellow Yellow Monday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Pink Saturday, Today’s Flowers, Macro Monday, Macro Flowers Saturday and Macro Friday, if you have a moment. Mt. Rainier from Tacoma

On the way back from our camping trip last week as we crossed the Puyallup River, our local volcano, AKA “the mountain,” was out and glorious. Taking lots of photos from the car window sometimes lucks out. This one is SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), not even cropped. Not bad!

Visit Skywatch Friday, Watery WednesdayOutdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, Shadow Shot Sunday, Weekend Reflections, Blue Monday, and Thursday Challenge (theme is Blue). Do see what else is fun around here first! Click on the tag of “scenic” perhaps?

Rose bouquet on a desk

A few posts down there’s a vase with rose stems, and you probably wondered what the roses looked like. I would have! Here they are, straight from my garden, for your viewing enjoyment. So sorry computers aren’t quite up to transmitting fragrance, yet.

Sunflowers at a farmers market

Farmers markets are supposed to be all about fresh, healthy, local produce, but I mostly go for the flowers. Buckets of fresh flowers, there for me and my admiring camera. I usually ask if I may take photos, and they almost always say yes. The berries and cherries usually get my dollars, but those flowers fill my (mental and electronic) memory card.

Visit Mellow Yellow Monday, Outdoor Wednesday, Color Carnival, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Today’s Flowers, Macro Monday, Macro Flowers Saturday and Macro Friday. Sunlight on a forest path

Camping! Can you just smell the woodsmoke? We love to get out in the woods for a few days and smell actual fresh air, day and night. Even a trek through the campground to the facilities can be a lovely experience. A warm day in August in the Pacific Northwest is like no other. I love the range of light to darks, with the blue sky peeping through, and I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.

Visit Shadow Shot Sunday, Outdoor WednesdayScenic Sunday, and this week the theme of Unique Exposures Weekend Challenge is 100 Years Old (or more). It’s pretty close to qualifying for SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) but I did adjust the curves just a tad, so it doesn’t. But take a look there anyway. Glass vase with rose stems

I know this is not my usual kind of subject, but heck, gotta go with these things sometimes. This was a bouquet of roses given to a friend (my roses!) and I just loved how the water and stems looked on her desk. I hope you enjoy the photo. [Note: see the August 22 post, three above this one, for the roses!]

Watery Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) and Macro Monday are all neat blogs and memes, well worth a visit. If there is only one photo below, please click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the others.
